Houston Ballet to Present Upcoming Shows, An Evening with the Stars and Season Finale, Giselle at Wortham Theater Center

The mixed repertory program brings together three distinct works by acclaimed choreographers. “This program exemplifies the range and talent of our company,” said Artistic Director Stanton Welch AM. “The juxtaposition of a Robbins masterwork being performed in the same program as a new work by Alice Topp shows Houston Ballet’s depth and expertise at bridging tradition and innovation.”

Together, the three ballets offer different perspectives on what it means to endure, to connect, and to create something larger than yourself. Rather than a single storyline, An Evening with the Stars will demonstrate a range of emotions for audiences.

At its core, Giselle is a timeless tale of heartbreak that has endured for nearly two centuries. Originally created in 1841 and set to music by Adolphe Adam, the ballet follows a young woman whose belief in love is shattered, leading her into a supernatural world where forgiveness and grief collide.

“What makes this Giselle resonate is how immediate it feels,” said Artistic Director Julie Kent. “The technique is demanding, but it’s really about what’s underneath—grief, betrayal, and ultimately, compassion and forgiveness. The dancers must live in that fully.”

This production also marks a decade since Welch first introduced his interpretation to Houston audiences.
