Houston’s favorite holiday tradition – Stanton Welch AM’s dazzling production of The Nutcracker, opening Friday, November 28 and running through Sunday, December 28 at the Wortham Theater Center. This year marks a significant milestone as the Company brings its Sensory-Friendly Nutcracker performance to the Wortham Theater on Friday, November 28 at 1 p.m., making the holiday tradition more accessible than ever.

“It becomes a true family experience. You see it, grow up with it, and bring your children and grandchildren. I love that,” said Artistic Director Stanton Welch AM.“For me, that’s what makes The Nutcracker so special — it’s not just a performance, it’s a tradition that connects generations and welcomes everyone into the magic of the season.”

The Sensory-Friendly Nutcracker offers a full-length performance thoughtfully adapted to create a welcoming environment for individuals with sensory sensitivities, physical or cognitive disabilities, and their families. Gentle production adjustments—such as moderated sound levels, relaxed lighting, and supportive resources—ensure that all audiences can experience the wonder of Houston Ballet’s most celebrated holiday classic in comfort.

“The Nutcracker belongs to everyone,” said Jen Sommers, Director of the Houston Ballet Academy. “This sensory-friendly performance reflects our commitment to opening our doors wider and making sure that the magic and tradition of ballet is truly inclusive.”

Over its five-week run, Houston Ballet’s Nutcracker will welcome more than 70,000 spectators to witness Welch’s whimsical and adventurous reimagining of the timeless masterpiece. Co-Artistic Director Julie Kent and Welch will lead Houston Ballet’s 61 professional dancers, alongside 340 student performers and an orchestra of over 100 musicians, through 38 spectacular
