Meow Wolf Houston Unveils New Exterior Mural by GONZO247, El Franco Lee II, Ana María Ortiz, Lee Washington, & Jasminze Zalaya
Meow Wolf Houston unveiled its first major addition to the Radio Tave exhibition. Before stepping into the multiverse of Radio Tave, visitors to Meow Wolf Houston are now greeted by a new exterior mural created by a collective of Houston-based artists.
The collaborative piece stretches across the front face of the building, greeting guests with a still life of chrome objects, vessels, and surreal figures. The mural pays homage to the site’s history as a sheet metal factory and Houston’s legacy of creativity, embodying Meow Wolf’s commitment to showcasing local voices in bold, unexpected ways.

Curated by Houston icon and Meow Wolf Artist Liaison GONZO247, the project unites a lineup of artists whose work reflects the city’s historic and ongoing creativity.
“This mural is Houston’s welcome mat to Meow Wolf,” said GONZO247. “Houston artists are shaping this space inside and out, and that was the intention from the beginning. We wanted to bring together a cohort of artists who could represent the city’s energy in different ways, so the very first thing people see is a collaboration that could only happen here.”
“These murals are honoring and depicting Houston’s love for Riding Slab around the city listening to DJ Screw, on the way to the closest thing we have to Astroworld in the City: Radio Tave. Hence the title Headed 2 Radio Tave: Side A and B,” said artist El Franco Lee II.

Jasmine Zelaya extends her distinctive Flower Face Vessel from inside the exhibition to the exterior. Modeled after an ancient vessel recalled from memory, the form appears in the mural with her signature detail and symbolism, carrying memory forward in a collective still life.
Ana María Ortiz (Ana Marietta) contributes The Light, a hybrid creature glowing from within. Known for her anthropomorphic figures, Ortiz’s being suggests resilience and reflection, set against chrome and floral motifs that expand the mural’s layered story.
The mural also incorporates reflective chrome objects painted by Lee Washington, grounding the work in the city’s industrial past and the 5th Ward community. These metallic forms provide a striking contrast to the organic vessels and beings, amplifying the layered voices of the collaboration.
“This mural signals that Meow Wolf Houston will never stand still,” said Aaron Johnson, General Manager of Meow Wolf Houston. “It’s our first major addition since opening, and it shows that guests can always expect something new here.”
Artistic contribution to Radio Tave’s mural includes the following artworks with additional chrome details by artist Lee Washington:
- The Light by Ana Maria Ortiz
- Flower Face Vessel by Jasmine Zelaya
- Headed 2 Radio Tave: Side A and B by El Franco Lee II
- New Boot Goofin by GONZO247
- Teacher’s Pet by GONZO247
The public mural can be found at the corner of Lyons Avenue and Semmes St. as part of Meow Wolf’s newest exhibition in Fifth Ward. The new mural stands as both a tribute to Houston’s artistic community and a promise of Meow Wolf’s ongoing creativity.
