Artful Anniversary Animates Buffalo Bayou Park with Celebratory Events

Throughout the month of October, BBP will present Artful Anniversary, a series of five virtual and visual art programs that will animate Buffalo Bayou Park with dance, music, and temporary installations.

In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the completion of Buffalo Bayou Park, Buffalo Bayou Partnership is hosting Artful Anniversary, a series of 5 unique virtual performances and experiences through the month of October. Grab your party hat, tune in at www.buffalobayou.org or visit the park on your own, and enjoy the music, dance and art along Houston’s 160-acre award-winning green space.

All 5-Year Artful Anniversary programs are free and available online. Exact details at https://buffalobayou.org/buffalo-bayou-park-5-year-anniversary/

Highlights include an exhibition of public sculptures by renowned, 105-year-old artist Carmen Herrera, as well as performances by Houston Grand Opera, DACAMERA, and Urban Souls Dance Company. Tune in online or visit the park on your own to experience the exhibitions.

Knitscape by Urban Yarnage at Rosemont Bridge: The new installation is a magical nature-themed Knitscape that celebrates Buffalo Bayou’s ecological diversity with a fun and colorful installation complete with a giant vine crawling along the Rosemont Pedestrian Bridge railing. The vine undulates along the railing with giant flowers, snakes, snails and caterpillars in a truly Alice-in-Wonderland themed adventure. The project also includes a colorful bayou themed display at the bridge entry at Allen Parkway and a meadow themed display at the bridge entry from the Memorial side. Twenty people worked on the project over the course of six weeks.

Singers from Houston Grand Opera will perform on the BBP pontoon boat-turned-stage, and the excitement is sure to crescendo on this cruise with Songs on the Water

With the art of dance, movement and physical expression, Urban Souls will make use of the vast, cavernous space of the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern for a subterranean performance like the 94-year old Cistern has never seen.

Walk among the larger-than-life shapes of Estructuras Monumentales, an exhibition of outdoor sculptures by the 105-year-old artist Carmen Herrera (b. 1915, Havana, Cuba).

Curated by DACAMERA, performances by musicians of different genres will be compiled into a film, recorded at three iconic spaces in Buffalo Bayou Park.

Tours of the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern and Private Pontoon Boat Tours have resumed. All other BBP programs, tours and events are canceled through October 31.
