A CHRISTMAS CAROL at The Alley Theatre: Resident Acting Company Member David Rainey Returns as Ebenezer Scrooge

This holiday favorite promises a dazzling Christmas feast featuring the Alley’s Resident Acting Company. Originally adapted and directed by Rob Melrose, Alley Artistic Associate Amber D. Gray will return as director after directing the remount in 2024. Resident Acting Company member David Rainey returns as Ebenezer Scrooge for the ninth time at the Alley.
A Christmas Carol invites audiences to celebrate the holidays and create cherished memories. Audiences can experience this timeless tradition of the beloved tale by Charles Dickens with vibrant Victorian costumes, lively dance numbers, and stunning sets that transport them to 19th-century London. The production seamlessly blends the heartwarming story with a cappella renditions of favorite carols, filling the stage with the joyous sounds of the season.
Artistic Director Rob Melrose shares his thoughts on this year’s production, “To create a new production of A Christmas Carol from scratch is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I was so honored to shape the Alley’s new adaptation of this beloved classic. This year, I’m happy once again to hand over the reins for remounting the show to Alley Theatre’s Artistic Associate Amber D. Gray. She did a lovely job remounting it last year.”
Performances of A Christmas Carol begin Friday, November 16 and run through Saturday, December 28 in the Hubbard Theatre. Tickets to A Christmas Carol are now on sale, starting at $36. Discounted tickets are available for military, senior, educator, and any student, regardless of age, with a valid student ID for designated performances in designated sections. DRUNK SHAKESPEARE PRESENTS DRUNK® CHRISTMAS CAROL AT THE EMERALD THEATRE:

The Drunk Shakespeare Society is set for their inaugural performances of Drunk® Christmas Carol. Running November 19 through December 28th at The Emerald Theatre, this limited six-week engagement invites audiences for a hilariously inebriated retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic tale, A Christmas Carol.
The Society brings its raucous holiday spin south for its first-ever Houston production. Each performance features one actor taking five shots of alcohol before attempting an epic retelling of the greatest holiday story of all time, while the remaining cast valiantly attempts to keep the show on track.

“We are so excited to bring Drunk® Christmas Carol to Houston for the first time this season! It’s a hysterical twist on the holiday classic that may just become your new Christmas tradition, ” said David Hudson, Co-creator and Producer, Drunk Shakespeare. “There’s no better city to debut Drunk Christmas Carol than Houston.”
Drunk Christmas Carol offers a hilarious evening of booze-infused laughs and unpredictability and promises a blend of wit and wildness. As the story goes, Ebenezer Scrooge, the holiday season’s hottest silver fox, is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Will he change his ways, or get totally scrooged? This isn’t your typical theater experience; the one drunk actor will lead the rest of the cast on a boozy, pop culture-infused retelling of the famous story.

For a limited time, the Drunk Shakespeare Society will serve the Ebenezer Booze, a specialty drink by Guard and Grace’s beverage manager, Emily Tucker available exclusively at The Emerald Theatre from Wednesday, Nov. 19, through Sunday, Jan. 4.
This adults-only (21+) production features strong language, sexual humor, audience interaction, and potential elements of nudity. Tickets start at $49 and are available at DrunkChristmas.com.
