VegOut! 30 Ways in 30 Days Challenge Returns

Recipe for Success Foundation 10th Annual Challenge declares Veggification for All Nations

Recipe for Success Foundation’s VegOut! 30 Ways in 30 Days Challenge kicks off on March 1 in tandem with National Nutrition Month

The VegOut! Challenge is a call to action to eat 30 different vegetables in 30 days and designed to make healthy eating fun with an easy-to-use online game and mobile app. The Foundation will again partner with Salata Salad Kitchen on the campaign that has attracted participants from all 50 states and around the world.

“With the VegOut! 30 Ways in 30 Days Challenge, we’re making it fun and exciting for everyone to try new, healthy foods and improve their diets in a sustainable way,” said Grace Cavnar, founder and CEO of Recipe for Success. “I can’t think of a more delicious and delightful partner than Salata to shine a light on our need to regularly eat more vegetables as an easy path to better health.”

With more than 50 toppings, Salata is the perfect go-to dining destination to embrace the VegOut! Challenge.

Beginning March 1, guests can enjoy their exclusive ‘Spring Vegetable Salad’, loaded with Salata mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, red onions, jicama, carrots, beets, pea sprouts, cilantro, corn, and pumpkin seeds. The special salad is available only through online ordering at Salata.com and the Salata Salad Kitchen mobile app. Just one meal will check off more than a dozen veggies for the month.

“We are thrilled to partner with Recipe for Success Foundation on its VegOut! Challenge for the second consecutive year,” said Michele Maerz, vice president of operations at Salata. “With National Nutrition Month taking place in March, it’s the perfect time to highlight the many nutritional benefits of vegetables, and the VegOut! Challenge is a brilliant way to introduce guests to vegetables that may not be in their usual rotation.”

VegOut! officially kicks off at Hope Farms (10401 Scott Street, Houston Texas 77051) with a high-octane rally taking place at Hope Farm’s first Wednesday Market on March 2 from 4-7 p.m.

The evening will feature interactive veggie-themed games, farm walks, cooking classes and market. One of the four cooking demos will
be led by the Dude That Cookz®, including a Cheesy Polenta with Spring Vegetables and Chimichurri and Poblano Pepper Stuffed Mushrooms. Eric and Shanna Jones, the duo behind the “Dude” are wildly popular food bloggers and media personalities. They have just co-authored a new cookbook titled Healthier Southern Cooking.

The book, to be released in mid-March, is a love story that shares southern and homestyle favorites made a
healthier way. Jones, who learned his way around the kitchen from his Louisiana grandmothers, has merged their
cooking style with his own – one focused on approachable recipes using clean, organic ingredients without compromising on big, bold tastes. A self-taught cook, Eric relies on his passion for developing and layering flavors to drive the dishes he creates, which are then transcribed and photographed by Shanna. The book will be available for pre-order at the event.

Other cooking demos will feature Chef Carlos Meltzer, Recipe for Success Foundation’s Culinary Director who will present his Drinkable Garden recipes for botanical mocktails and cocktails along with Creating a Healthy Kitchen presented by Texas A&M Agrilife Better Living For Texans.

The family friendly kickoff will also host local boutique makers including Jazzy J’s Creations delicious sauce cubes, Adenla Handcrafted Essentials plant-based skincare products and Honey Bz Organic Juices, Charles Foriest sculptures, Mo’s Treats, Flower Child Bouquets, as well as fresh produce from Hope Farms.

Why VegOut!: National Nutrition Month is a time to focus on the positive influence of eating more vegetables as a part of one’s
daily routine and the impact that it can have on health and wellbeing. The U.S. Surgeon General has recommended that simply eating more fresh produce is the easiest way to a healthier life. Structured like any other online game, The VegOut! 30 Ways in 30 Days challenge may be taken any month of the year using the website and mobile app to track veg consumption while earning points and badges.

The VegOut! Challenge uses its mobile app and online resources to gamify healthy eating and make it an adventure. Regardless of what motivates you – the fun of the competition, the exploration of new foods or a personal focus on healthy eating – the result is the same. Players can form VegOut! teams with friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to help hold each other accountable and engage in some friendly competition while earning points and badges for healthy behavior. Participants can even raise money from friends for their healthy
behavior to fund signature Recipe for Success initiatives such as bringing Seed-to-Plate Nutrition EducationTM programs to their neighborhood schools, providing Hope Farms Field Trips for kids, or underwriting training scholarships for aspirational farmers.
