Bridgeland® Launches Third Residential Village, Prairieland Village® within the #1 Selling Community in the Lone Star State

Award-Winning Master Planned Community Embraces  Sustainable Landscaping Inspired by Art and Nature

The Howard Hughes Corporation® announced today that Bridgeland®, the top-selling master planned community in Texas, has launched its newest phase of development with Prairieland Village,® the third of four villages envisioned in the award-winning community.

Featuring the innovative design, environmental sustainability, and community connectivity for which Bridgeland and its already successful residential developments of Lakeland Village® and Parkland Village® are known for, Prairieland Village signifies the community’s next chapter of growth, one that is expected to become a major economic driver for the fast-growing northwest sector of the Greater West Houston region.

Upon completion, Prairieland Village will encompass approximately 7,000 homesites equating to an estimated 26,000 residents, boasting a diverse mix of housing products and prices on the west side of the Grand Parkway. Amenities will include a series of lakes designed for recreational activities, a lakefront pavilion, activity complex and village park, canoe and kayak launches, hiking and biking trails, birdwatching locations, catch-and-release fishing, neighborhood parks and playgrounds, and shade pavilions.

“Since selling our first home nearly 15 years ago, Bridgeland has continued to set new standards for residential development, becoming the top-selling community in Texas,” said Heath Melton, Executive Vice President of Master Planned Communities, Residential, for The Howard Hughes Corporation. He added, “Prairieland Village is our next step forward, combining innovative, sustainable and resilient features with inspiration drawn from the beauty and native ecosystem of the surrounding natural setting.  Prairieland will continue in Bridgeland’s tradition as a walkable, interconnected village that encourages a healthy and active lifestyle, providing sought-after amenities and a variety of Houston’s top builders and model homes.”

Prairieland Village will also embody Bridgeland’s long-standing commitment to excellent schools. Prairieland residents will be zoned to Waller Independent School District, Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District, and Katy Independent School District — all of which have been designated top-rated districts by the Texas Education Agency. Waller ISD recently announced its purchase of land in Prairieland Village to build a state-of-the-art elementary school, its first campus in Bridgeland.

The development is ideally situated adjacent to the Grand Parkway, a short distance to Interstate 10 and U.S. 290 with short commutes to the Energy Corridor as well as The Woodlands® and less than 30 minutes to George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Bridgeland Central, the future 900-acre town center designed to service Bridgeland and the greater surrounding area, will be located due east of Prairieland.

Prairieland Village is envisioned as a development that is “Painted by Nature,” where natural elements of the prairie-like setting have been seamlessly integrated into the landscape and architectural design. Materials and colors have all been thoughtfully selected to pioneer a low-impact design with a contemporary, natural aesthetic.

An expansive central green space will feature plantings of prairie and meadow-like flora and fauna that will provide a welcoming habitat for native and migrating butterflies, insects, and other pollinating species, for which pollinator plants have been integrated into each residential landscape.

In addition to their beautiful physical presence throughout Prairieland Village, butterflies have inspired the names of the parks, lakes, neighborhoods, and streets that define the new development. Themes of natural movement will be also highlighted by the environmentally friendly movement of water found in lakes, bioswales and aquatic plantings that cleanse and control rainwater runoff; in the swaying motion of tall grasses to generate a calming effect; and with the transition between varying ecosystems within the landscape. On a more human scale, the movement of pedestrian traffic along the pathways and under-crossings at major thoroughfares will provide safe access to amenities, health and wellness opportunities, schools, and future retail experiences while reinforcing the connectivity of the community.

“We are proud to welcome Prairieland Village to Bridgeland as it continues to positively transform the northwest Houston area and build into an economically vital sector of the city, welcoming thousands of residents seeking a top-tier living experience,” said Jim Carman, President, Houston Region for The Howard Hughes Corporation. “The Howard Hughes Corporation’s mission is to build exceptional communities where families and businesses can thrive for generations. Prairieland will exemplify our forward-thinking approach to design, sustainability, and cultural connectivity for our award-winning master planned community.”

Construction is currently underway, and builders are expected to be announced this summer with first homesites being available at that time.
