Museum of Fine Arts Houston and Houston Community College Present Fashion Fusion on January 30
Fashion Competition inspired by the Arts of Asia
Asian art meets contemporary couture in Fashion Fusion, the ninth edition of the annual fashion competition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Open to aspiring designers in the award-winning Fashion Design program at Houston Community College, Fashion Fusion challenges students to create original garments in response to art on display in the museum’s galleries.
This year, the aspiring designers showcase garments addressing the theme, Arts of Asia, based on the MFAH collections of Chinese, Indian, Japanese, and Korean art.
Presented by the MFAH and HCC Central, Fashion Fusion culminates in a professional fashion show and awards presentation on Thursday, January 30, in the Museum’s Cullinan Hall. Twenty garments created by HCC’s emerging designers will be featured in four categories: street and sportswear; evening and cocktail wear; avant garde and conceptual; and sustainable and conventional.
A distinguished panel of judges— fashion designer Chloe Dao, Neiman Marcus Vice President and General Manager Kathy Leigh, and MFAH curator of Asian art Bradley Bailey —will assess the students’ work based on theme, construction, and overall presentation. The first and second place winners in each category, and the audience choice winner, will be announced following the runway show. Winning garments will be displayed at The Galleria and the MFAH.
General admission to Fashion Fusion is free. VIP ticket are available for $25. Please visit https://www.mfah.org/calendar?date=2025-01-30 for more information.
