Ex-NFL star, Andre Johnson fulfills Christmas wishes for Houston children
The spirit of Christmas was in full effect at Ex-NFL star, Andre Johnson’s Holiday Shopping Spree for 12 local children.
The children, ages 8-12 from Harris County’s Department of Family Protective Services, were treated to an 80 second shopping spree to fill their carts to the brim in the allotted time at Toys “R” Us in Houston. Houston Texan cheerleaders partnered with each child to assist with shopping.
Johnson, a retired Pro Bowl Wide Receiver and former Houston Texans player, paid for the all-expense shopping spree to the tune of $19,144.58. The children came ready with ideas of what they wanted for themselves and also for their siblings. Carts were filled with tablets, Legos, Barbies, games, a gumball machine, drone, scooters, dolls and more.
“I am just blessed to be in the position to be able to make a difference in the lives of these kids during the holidays,” said Johnson. “I always look forward to this event each year because I am able to show my appreciation to my community and give back.”
The experience was exciting for everyone. Houston Texan cheerleader, Emily and her partner, 15-year-old, Zella were able to include a telescope and toys. “It was fun,” said Zella. “I got a couple of things for some kids and myself.”
Johnson is thrilled to be able to fulfill the children’s Christmas wishes for themselves and their family.
“They just don’t think about themselves. They think about their siblings. It’s great to see that. This is my 9th year doing this. It’s fun. It’s my favorite event because this is for them. It’s something they enjoy,” he said.
