ASH BEHESHTI–IN HIS OWN WORDS
ABOUT ASH BEHESHTI: Ash is a mixed-media artist from Los Angeles. As a visual storyteller, Beheshti voices his stories through his figurative collages that celebrate the female form and portray women in a strong, positive, and inspirational light.
My desire to become an artist started at the early age of 7. Cartoon characters and family portraits were my subjects of choice. What I loved most about painting and drawing was the freedom to create an imaginary world with its own characters. Now, as a self-taught
professional artist from California, I consider myself a visual story teller. What motivates me most is originality and uniqueness.
When creating a new painting, my focus is always on inventing new ways to tell that story in the most distinctive and awe-inspiring manner. My passion for life drawing, painting, photography, music and interior design has shaped my unique style of mixed media art. By combining various techniques and materials in a multi-step process which includes paper collaging, digital collaging, silk-screening, photo transfer and hand painting, I bring these canvas stories to life.
As a figurative artist, I’m fascinated by the human form, its natural beauty and its various expressions. Historically, the female body has been celebrated in every possible medium including paintings, sculptures, dance, film and photography. My goal is to continue this tradition. I’m influenced by female role models in my personal life as well as others throughout society, history and pop culture. Whether it’s a closeup of a face in deep thought or a figure of a woman in a glamorous pose, I portray my subject in the most flattering and inspirational light.
To depict elements of spirituality in my work, I often paint butterflies dancing and surrounding my subject. Representing transformation, beauty and freedom, these butterflies tell the story of a woman experiencing inner growth and empowerment in a timeless and tasteful image that’s captured in that moment in time.
Having been chosen as the featured artist in the upcoming Bayou City Art Festival is truly a great honor for me. With over 50 years of excellence and commitment to supporting and promoting countless local and national artists, this organization is one of the most respected and highly ranked festivals in the country, especially in fine art community. Their endorsement of my art means the world to me and their invitation to participate in this year’s festival represents my very first art exhibition in the great state off Texas. The opportunity to share my creations and grow my viewership in this state, especially the city of Houston with it’s rich history and art culture is absolutely a dream come true. My advice to all aspiring artists is to never stop creating and continue developing your artistic skills on a daily basis. Success as a professional artist comes from the three “Ds”: Discipline, Dedication and Development.
