Whataburger and Houston Texans Team Up to Tackle Hunger With Ninth Annual Fundraising Campaign

It’s the most anticipated match-up of the season: Whataburger and the Houston Texans vs. child hunger.

Two iconic Texas brands are teaming up again to support their communities with their ninth annual fundraising campaign. Benefiting the Houston Food Bank, this campaign tackles hunger and helps provide nutritious meals to children across Houston.

From Monday, Sept. 16, to Monday, Oct. 7, guests at all 152 Houston-area Whataburgers can donate $1 to the Houston Food Bank and receive a thank-you coupon for a free Whataburger with the purchase of a medium fry and 32-ounce drink on their next visit. All proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to the Houston Food Bank’s child hunger programs — Backpack Buddy, Kids Cafe and School Market.

“Every dollar given helps to provide three meals to Houstonians facing food insecurity,” said Brian Greene, president/CEO of Houston Food Bank. “In 2023, the Houston Food Bank was able to provide 5 million meals for local children through our child hunger programs — thanks, in part, to Whataburger and the Houston Texans. We’re all working together toward a future where every child has reliable access to nutritious food.”

To kick off the fundraiser, Whataburger and the Houston Texans are hosting an event at the State Highway 99 and Morton Ranch Rd. Whataburger in Katy (2940 W. Grand Parkway N., Katy, TX 77449) from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 17. Houston Texans Cheerleaders, mascot TORO and Texans Legend Cullen Gillaspia will be in attendance to celebrate the start of the campaign, along with Whataburger and Houston Texans officials.

The partnership and fundraising campaign are part of Whataburger’s Feeding Student Success initiative, which focuses on charitable giving at the intersection of food insecurity and education. Along with the fundraising campaign, this program supports seven Whataburger Resource Rooms on college campuses, the Whataburger Feeding Student Success Scholarship, and hunger education and awareness programs at local schools.

“At Whataburger, our primary goals are to create meaningful connections and support our communities,” said Whataburger Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Scott Hudler. “Through this campaign, our partnership with the Houston Texans and the Houston Food Bank, and through our Feeding Student Success initiative, we’re helping ensure that no child goes hungry.”

Since its launch in 2015, the campaign has raised more than $1 million for the Houston Food Bank. The total 2024 contributions from the Houston community will be announced in October.

“It is an honor to continue to team up with Whataburger to fight against hunger within our community,” Houston Texans Senior Vice President of Partnerships Jerry Angel said. “Through this partnership and fundraising campaign, we look forward to supporting the Houston Food Bank’s efforts to tackle hunger throughout Houston, especially our youngest Texans fans.”
