Drunk Shakespeare Society Delivers Limited Performances of DRUNK ROMEO & JULIET

The Drunk Shakespeare Society is taking the stage for the world premiere of Drunk Romeo & Juliet, with performances April through June 1, 2025 at The Emerald Theatre. For eight weeks only, patrons will have the opportunity to witness one actor take five shots of whiskey and attempt an epic retelling of the world’s most iconic tale of star-crossed lovers, Romeo & Juliet.

“We’re thrilled to launch Drunk Romeo & Juliet in Houston. It’s the perfect city for our latest concept, and we know that audiences will go wild for this sexy and hilarious drunken adaptation,” said David Hudson, Co-creator and Producer, Drunk Shakespeare. “We are excited to bring a little love, laughter, and libations to Downtown Houston, and hope you’ll come find your soulmate at the Drunk Shakespeare Society!”

Staged exclusively in Houston, Phoenix and Washington D.C. this Spring, Drunk Romeo & Juliet offers a hilarious, unpredictable evening of booze-infused laughs and promises a blend of wit and wildness.

As the story goes, after centuries of family feuds and forbidden love, the world’s most iconic star-crossed lovers fall into a passionate, forbidden romance. Their tragic fate unfolds as they defy the odds, risking everything for love and now they are ready to show their story to Houston. Each performance will follow the same premise as Drunk Shakespeare, where one of the actors in the ensemble consumes five shots of whiskey to start the show, and then leads the rest of the cast on a boozy, pop culture infused retelling of this famous story. While the sober cast attempts to remain on script, the show varies based on the actor’s level of intoxication.

Located in Emerald Theatre’s hidden library, Drunk Romeo & Juliet enhances the audience experience by the opportunity to join in or watch the antics of history’s most iconic love story. In addition, guests can purchase craft cocktails and snacks during the show.

For those looking to guarantee their audience participation, patrons can purchase “The Royal Throne” for $500 and enjoy an elevated experience that includes a regal throne, royal crowns, a bottle of Moet & Chandon, fine caviar and handmade chocolates, two signature cocktails with premium liquor, as well as decision making powers during the play.

“Our talented group of actors are no strangers to this unconventional concept and are eager to swoon alongside new and returning patrons,” said Hudson. “Whether you’re looking for a unique date night or an immersive experience with friends, we invite you to join us for a memorable night like no other.”

Drunk Romeo & Juliet is written and directed by Lori Wolter Hudson and produced by Brass Jar Productions. Drunk Romeo & Juliet is an adult-only show (21+) featuring strong language, vulgarity, sexual humor, and audience interaction, with potential elements of nudity. Tickets begin at $49 and can be purchased at http://drunkshakespeare.com/houston.

About Drunk Romeo & Juliet

Drunk Romeo & Juliet is a short-run theatrical production set to be staged in Houston beginning this April. One professional actor has five shots of whiskey and then attempts to perform a major role in Shakespeare’s greatest love story: Romeo & Juliet. Hilarity and mayhem ensue while the remaining sober actors try to keep the script on track. Every show is different depending on who is drinking…and what they’re drinking.
