Lone Star College awards over 200 bachelor’s degrees at recent ceremony
Lone Star College awarded 212 bachelor’s degrees at its third Baccalaureate Commencement Ceremony held May 12.
“Lone Star College offers high-quality academic and workforce programs, like the baccalaureate programs, which help students create better futures while ensuring they meet industry’s needs,” said Dwight Smith, Ed.D., LSC Vice Chancellor Academic and Workforce Success. “It was an honor to bestow the four-year degrees to over 200 graduates who’ve demonstrated the commitment needed to succeed in the classroom and the workforce.”
LSC is the only community college in Texas to offer four baccalaureate degrees in Cybersecurity, Emergency Management, Energy, Manufacturing and Trades Management and Nursing.
Earning a bachelor’s degree helps students to:
- Learn valuable skills.
- Increase earning potential.
- Gain job security.
- Expand career options.
- Make lasting connections.
“Research shows that a bachelor’s degree increases lifetime earning potential and employability 31% more than an associate degree and 74% more than a high school diploma,” said Dalia Sherif, Ph.D., LSC-University Center at The Woodlands Executive Dean of Baccalaureate Programs and Partnerships. “Additionally, students pursuing a baccalaureate degree can stay ahead of industry trends and learn critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills needed both on and off the job.”
The LSC Bachelor’s Program grants students an opportunity to study close to home and earn a four-year degree for the same cost as an associate degree, saving them thousands of dollars. Courses are built with eight-week classes in a hybrid (online and in-person) model to support working students.
“I never thought I would go to college, but Lone Star College has made this dream a reality for me,” said Derek Castillo, LSC Energy, Manufacturing and Trades Management graduate. “I am thankful for every professor who gifted their knowledge to me. I am smarter, more equipped and prepared for anything life throws at me.”
LSC’s started its first three bachelor’s degrees in fall 2020 and offered its fourth, Emergency Management, in 2021. All programs will host virtual information sessions throughout the year. Visit LoneStar.edu/Virtual-Info to find the next session.
