MOODY GARDENS SEES PROGRESS AND FAVORABLE GUEST RESPONSE IN FIRST TWO WEEKS OF REOPENING

Guests have comfortably rediscovered their Happy Place for two weeks now as Moody Gardens has provided the escape people have been yearning for following two months of Stay-at-Home orders to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The Aquarium Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid, MG3D Theater, 4D Special FX Theater, 20,000 Leagues Interactive Adventure, Colonel Paddlewheel Boat and the new Dinos Alive exhibit opened May 23. Palm Beach opened to the public on June 5. Capacity restrictions started at 25 percent and increased to 50 percent last weekend.

The number of visitors has increased proportionally with very favorable guest response to social distancing and other CDC and Moody Gardens health and safety guidelines.

“Most of our attractions like the Rainforest and Aquarium Pyramids and Dinos Alive exhibit are vast, open spaces that are ideal for social distancing,” said Moody Gardens President and CEO John Zendt, who added that this comfort is more important than ever as COVID-19 restrictions continue to lessen. “Our crowds have been commensurate with capacity limits and not overwhelming at our attractions, hotel and golf course. This is exactly where we want to be for the best guest experience.”

Moody Gardens introduced a comprehensive health and safety program along with its Pyramid Promise that protocols and practices are in place for experience that is clean, safe and fun. Additionally guests are encouraged to purchase their tickets online. This approach minimizes contact through cash handling and ticket disbursement at cashier windows. Tickets can be purchased on property but a new cashless digital payment policy has been put in place and the only form of payment accepted property-wide is credit/debit cards.

The Moody Gardens Hotel opened on May 22 and a short escape or an extended visit. It can even offer an option for those working remotely who have their laptops to get a little work done in their room while the rest of the family enjoys the attractions. Amenities available for hotel guests include a spacious outdoor pool, complimentary bicycles, a spa, casual and fine dining, and a variety of special packages ranging from golf and spa packages to Babe’s Beach complete with shuttle services to one of Galveston’s favorite beaches. Weekday deals at the Moody Gardens Hotel is another way for guests to enjoy a discount on a quieter day on Galveston Island.

The Moody Gardens Golf Course is also available after reopening on May 4 with recently aeriated greens that are in prime condition. The course was recently ranked No. 6 out of 352 public courses in the state of Texas on the Golf Advisor Golfers’ Choice list which is compiled by analyzing the rating and reviews submitted by members of the magazine’s review community throughout the year.
