Houston Food Bank Needs Volunteers to Assist with Huge Demand

Houston Food Bank needs volunteers! 

Houston Food Bank is now distributing approximately 1 million pounds of food daily, up from 400,000 a day pre-COVID-19. Volunteers are essential to Houston Food Bank’s operations, and are needed now more than ever.

Individuals who are well and feel comfortable volunteering can register online at houstonfoodbank.org for a shift(s):  8 am to noon, 1-4 pm and 6-9 pm, Monday to Saturday, some Sundays and offsite options available as well. We are adding new shifts frequently.  

Houston Food Bank is practicing social distancing and increased safety measures – temperatures are taken on all individuals entering the building or project areas, enhanced sanitation throughout the facilities, sanitation stations throughout the facilities, and masks are required.

WHERE:

  • 535 Portwall Street Location (HFB’s main warehouse) with Packing, sorting, inspecting product; Kitchen prep
  • 8530 Market Street Location* (HFB’s temporary warehouse) with Packing, sorting, inspecting product for distribution
  • Neighborhood Super Site Distributions with Distributing food in drive-through model at Klein area (Fridays) and NRG Parking Lot (Saturdays)

WHEN:

General volunteer shifts are Monday to Saturday, 8 am to noon, 1-4 pm and 6-9 pm.

Some Sundays and offsite options available as well.
