Next spring could look a bit greener around the Houston area. The Market at Springwoods Village is working with Trees For Houston to give away a variety of 5-gallon trees on a first-come, first-served basis. Species include Bottlebrush, Pecan, Vitex, Live Oak, Swamp Chestnut Oak.

At the celebration guests can enjoy music, food and beverage sampling; family- and earth-friendly activities.

WHY:

As a result of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, many trees died from standing water because the waters receded at a slower rate than usual. Trees For Houston has been focused on mitigating flooding by replacing the lost urban forests, which include the trees along bayous and in neighborhoods across the region.

Since the destruction of Harvey was so widespread, Trees For Houston has focused on flood mitigation throughout the region and has planted tens of thousands of trees throughout the city.
