Delightfully entertaining, The Sound of Music arrives in Houston

The touring revival of The Sound of Music takes on Houston audiences in the brand new production directed by three-time Tony Award winning director, Jack O’Brien coming to the Hobby Center.

The musical, presented by Broadway at the Hobby Center, will appear from February 16-21, 2016. Times for shows are 7:30 for opening night, Tuesday, February 21 and as follows for additional performances: Tuesday-Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. February 21.

The beloved musical story of Maria and the Von Trapp family will entertain guests with their Tony, Grammy and Academy Award winning Best Score featuring the songs, “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss” and the title song, “The Sound of Music.”

The Sound of Music features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, suggested by “The Trapp Family Singers” by Maria Augusta Trapp.

This touring revival launched in September in Los Angeles and has received rave reviews deeming it “natural,” “fresh,” and “unlike any other production.”

O’Brien, a veteran Broadway director, has three Tony Awards under his belt for The Coast of Utopia, Henry IV and Hairspray and has been able to put his experience to good use for The Sound of Music.

The 50th Anniversary of The Sound of Music film version was celebrated in 2015.
