The Village School raises $3,000 towards their goal of $9,000 for Avondale House
Supporting their community just went to a new level at The Village School as they’ve chosen to show their commitment to the Avondale House, a local school and provider for children and adults with Autism.
Their first step was gathering a team of 13 Village students who would run in a 13 hour relay to raise money towards their $9,000 Houston Marathon goal. The result of their November 13 effort, called the 13 on 13 on the 13th Event, was a huge success. Not only did the team raise $3,000 towards their goal, they also ended up running a total of 113 miles. Their goal had been to run 100 miles.

When The Village School had the chance to choose a charity to sponsor, the concept of a school supporting a school seemed like the perfect fit where kids were helping kids. Enthusiasm was the contagious as the relay was set as the perfect setting to kick off their fundraising.
“As soon as we realized we had 13 students to participate, and we had chosen November 13th as our day, we came up with the idea to run for 13 hours- 13 for 13 on the 13th,” said Kim Healy, Director of Campus Coordination.
Team members were thrilled to be part of this cause. The Village School has 18 runners, 13 students and 5 faculty including our Head of School, who are participating towards the final goal
“We are running triple digits today for a great cause,” said participant Ben Abueg.
The Avondale House, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit United Way agency. Their specialty is recognizing that each individual with autism has unique strengths and needs.
They’re able to utilize various training strategies to support their different learning styles and focus on working with children and adults who are profoundly impacted by this disorder. Their day school program, adult day habilitation program and residential group home services are designed to nurture individuals on the spectrum throughout the course of their lives, while helping them reach their fullest potential.
