Houston’s ISKCON Community Continues to Grow

More than thirty years ago, the founding members of the ISKCON (The International Society for Krishna Consciousness) bought several acres of land off West 34th street to build a center for their community. In 2004, they began construction of the current 24,000 square foot beautiful center, with a 72-foot high central dome, which debuted on May 16, 2014.

Along the way, they built an organic urban farm, an elementary school — Goswami Academy — where they integrated the classroom programs with their values-based curriculum focusing on character development and academic excellence that meets Texas Education Agency requirements. They are even building apartments which will be available to those who are living a healthy lifestyle – (vegetarian, no smoking or drinking of alcohol).

Education expansion:  Opened in 2014, Goswami Academy offers pre-school (starting at age three) and regular classes through the fifth grade. Goswami Academy plans to add a new class level each year up to the eighth grade. They are currently building a new state of the art school building, which will include its own science lab and library, a day-care center and  room to grow for high school in the future. They hope to have a grand opening of the new building in the fall of 2017 in time for the new school year.
