Take in July Events at the Houston Museum of Natural Science

The Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) is gearing up for a memorable July, offering a month of programming packed with hands-on discovery and immersive summer adventures.

The lineup features a mystery-filled evening of music and hidden identities at Mixers & Elixirs: Masquerade Night, Mind Over Matter exercise events, a Summer in Space viewing, and a unique hands-on Butterfly Pinning masterclass for entomology enthusiasts.

Work out in one of Houston’s most unique settings. Each week brings a new way to move with rotating classes like Pilates, Zumba, yoga, and meditation accompanied by sound bowls. Strike a pose in the Morian Hall of Paleontology, find your flow beneath the stars in the Burke Baker Planetarium, or energize your workout in Wiess Energy Hall—every class is set against a spectacular museum backdrop. After class, cool down with freshly squeezed juice and take a relaxing stroll through the exhibit you just experienced.

A daytime adventure at the George Observatory celebrating all things astronomy. Start by exploring with a scavenger hunt before heading upstairs to the observation deck. See the Sun during its most active period using the specialized solar telescope and tour our Research Dome for a behind-the-scenes look at how we operate our largest telescope.

Next, head back inside to experience an immersive presentation in our Discovery Dome planetarium, and get a taste of space travel when you blast off on a short simulated space mission in our interactive Expedition Center. Tickets are limited to 24 participants and recommended for ages 7 and up. This is a timed & ticketed two-hour event. Ticket does not include entry to Brazos Bend State Park. This event is weather permitting; observation deck experience might be replaced with recent observations of the Sun and solar-related activities.

An evening cloaked in mystery awaits you at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Don your mask and finest attire and step into a night of music, intrigue, and endless possibilities. Dance the night away to the sounds of DJ SkaDean, DJ Athenz, and Innerloop Collective, or escape to the Giant Screen Theatre for a screening of The Phantom of the Opera (2004).

For those who dare, take to the stage in the Planetarium karaoke lounge and let your voice shine. Sip sparkling drinks at cashless bars, indulge in bites from food vendors, and create unforgettable moments as you search for the Queen of the Masquerade to capture an elusive selfie. This event is 21+. Check out out the immersive exhibit, Clickbait, for an additional $5.

Learn the delicate art of preserving and displaying butterflies. Under expert guidance, learn about the anatomy, species identification, and ecological significance of butterflies, and discover the proper techniques for handling, spreading, and pinning specimens to create a beautiful, lasting display. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned entomology enthusiast, this class offers a unique opportunity to work with real specimens and take home your very own pinned butterfly. All supplies provided. Ages 15+ NO EXCEPTIONS. All minors must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. No refunds. Eligible for CPE credit.
