Don’t Miss the Top 5 February Events and Exhibitions at Houston Museum of Natural Science
This February, the Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) is redefining the season of romance with a lineup that is as eclectic as it is educational.

From naming a roach resident at the “Heartbreak Motel” during Endless Love to breaking a sweat among prehistoric giants at Mind Over Matter – Reverse Happy Hour, the museum offers an unconventional escape for every interest. Whether you are looking for chemistry at Mixers & Elixirs: Atoms & Attractions, exploring the lethal politics of romance at the Valentine’s Dinner & Lecture: “Love vs. Power in Ancient Egypt,” or uncovering the secrets of the departed in the Class – CSI: Forensic Anthropology, HMNS provides a world-class backdrop for curiosity and connection this month.

- Event: Endless Love: HMNS Hermann Park | Now through Saturday, February 14
Exciting, tough, sometimes scary……. give your loved one the ultimate symbol of endless love: A Hissing Cockroach. Honor a loved one (or get revenge on an ex, we won’t tell) by naming a roach after them. Because nothing makes a heartbeat faster than a roach. From January 18 through February 14, help these roaches secure their reservations for just $10, which includes naming a roach and a certificate, or $15, which includes naming a roach, a certificate, and an Endless Love Pin (on-site only). Your roach lives at the Heartbreak Motel located inside the Museum Store- come by and visit anytime. You will receive a digital version of the certificate when ordered online, which will be emailed to you once your order is complete.

- Event: Mind Over Matter – Reverse Happy Hour: HMNS Hermann Park | Thursday, February 5 | 6:30 p.m.
Start your year off right with a workout in one of Houston’s most unique settings. Move through the museum with your group as instructors guide you from one space to the next. Stretch beneath the glowing marine life in Glassell Hall, strengthen your core beside towering dinosaurs in the Morian Hall of Paleontology, and then head to the Wiess Energy Hall to exercise your mind by competing in a focus challenge designed to sharpen reaction time and cognitive performance. After the workout, begin your cooldown with music, a complimentary glass of champagne, and a stroll through the Morian Hall of Paleontology.

Please bring your own workout mat, water bottle, and towel, as these items will not be provided.
All participants must sign a consent form prior to beginning the class.
We will be moving through the museum using stairs. If you need accommodations or assistance, please let the team know in advance.

Cozy up in the Wortham Giant Screen Theatre for a continuous showing of Pride & Prejudice (2005)—perfect for swooning, smiling, and bonding over your favorite Darcy moment. Want something interactive? Head to the Burke Baker Planetarium for karaoke under the stars and belt out your favorite tunes. Looking to meet someone new? Grab a green, yellow, or red bracelet and let the night flow—or take things up a notch in our speed-dating lounge in Brown Hall. Already coupled up? - Event: Valentine’s Dinner & Lecture: “Love vs. Power in Ancient Egypt”: HMNS at Sugar Land | Saturday, February 14 | 6:00 pm
Cleopatra, Caesar, Antony—and why romance was never accidental. Last year,HMNS explored Love in Ancient Egypt. This year, they’ll return to Ancient Egypt with a look at Cleopatra, one of its most famous power players. Some consider the story of Cleopatra, Caesar, and Antony one of the greatest love stories ever told. Explore the reality behind the legend this Valentine’s Day, February 14, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at HMNS Sugar Land. This immersive evening dives deeper into the calculated alliances that shaped two empires.
The event combines an illuminating lecture by Michelle Marlar, Ph.D., Director of Egyptian Archaeological Missions, with an elegant three course dinner and wine service. Discover how love, alliance, and power overlapped, why Cleopatra aligned herself with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, and how these strategic partnerships changed the course of Roman and Egyptian history forever.
- Event: Class – CSI: Forensic Anthropology: HMNS Hermann Park | Wednesday, February 25|6:30 p.m.
Bones have secrets to tell, if you are willing to listen. Explore how forensic anthropologists use bones to create biological profiles for unidentified skeletal remains, aiding law enforcement in giving a name to the missing. After learning the methods used to analyze remains, participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at determining the sex and ancestry of an individual using the skull.
Ages 15+. NO EXCEPTIONS. All minors must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. No refunds. Eligible for CPE.
