As CMS celebrates its 50th anniversary season in 2019-20, education and global access to the arts remain integral parts of its mission. In line with that mission, SPA has partnered with Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) to provide rehearsal space for CMS pianist Wu Han.

“This gives Kinder HSPVA students the opportunity to observe a world-renowned musician during their school hours. We are happy that SPA has an ever-expanding relationship with Kinder HSPVA and can continue to provide these opportunities for young artists.” says Meg Booth, CEO of SPA.

In addition to rehearsing, Wu Han will be the clinician of a piano master class for students at Kinder HSPVA during the day with the performance following that evening. After the performance, SPA invites patrons to remain in their seats and engage with the artists during a Westwood Trust Creative Chat.

Featured artists include Wu Han, pianist and co-artistic director of CMS; Paul Huang, violin; Matthew Lipman, viola; and Clive Greensmith, cello.

The program, French Enchantment, begins and ends with early works by Saint-Saëns and Fauré that recreate the elegant atmosphere of 19th-century Parisian salons.

In between, the Ravel sonata, written soon after World War I, uses just two string instruments to produce a composition of unique, simple beauty. These three distinct works capture the essence of pure melody in its most delightfully fundamental form.
