San Jacinto Museum and Texas Historical Commission Celebrate The Battle of San Jacinto on Saturday, April 20th

On April 20, the echoes of history will resound once again at the San Jacinto Battleground as the annual San Jacinto Day Celebration returns. Presented by the San Jacinto Museum and the Texas Historical Commission, San Jacinto Day Celebration promises family-friendly fun, battle reenactments, and living history activities honoring the 188th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto.

“We look forward to welcoming Texans, native and new alike, to join us in celebrating San Jacinto Day on April 20,” said Executive Director Amy Rogers. “Now more than 30 years in, this annual celebration serves as a vital educational platform, offering immersive experiences for all ages to deepen understanding and appreciation for Texas history.”

On Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., attendees will be transported back in time to April 1836 to experience the 18-minute battle that shaped Texas history. Highlights of the day include:

  • Battle of San Jacinto Reenactment: Experience the intensity of the battle and General Santa Anna’s surrender through engaging reenactments held at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • The Road to San Jacinto: Explore the lead-up to the battle with presentations from representatives of other significant Texas Revolution sites: San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site and the Alamo.
  • Living History: Step into revolutionary Texas with interactive activities for all ages, including breadmaking, butter churning, a cannon and musket demonstration and quill and ink crafts.
  • San Jacinto Day Lecture Series: Between the two reenactments, enjoy free, 30-minute scholarly lectures from Dr. Frank de la Teja, Bill O’Neal, Andrew J. Torget and Dr. Carolina Castillo Crimm.

The event will also feature food trucks and a market with local vendors and nonprofits. Parking for the event is limited; rideshares and carpools are encouraged. Visit www.sanjacinto-museum.org for event updates.
