The New York Times Critics’ Pick takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Gander, Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships. The small town embraces people who were in planes ordered to be grounded after the attacks on the World Trade Center.

HOUSTON CONNECTION–NICK & DIANE MARSON

Nick and Diane were diverted passengers on Sept. 11, 2001 when  they met in a shelter in a little town named Gambo in Newfoundland,Canada. Nick from the U.K. and Diane from Texas were among the over 6,500 passengers who landed at Gander airport  that day. They fell in love, married in Sept. 2002 and spent their honeymoon with the kindly folks they met the year before in Gambo. Nick, an Electronic Engineer  in the Oil Industry, is now retired and enjoys his hobby of flying radio-controlled planes. Volunteering with a local organization who serves children, families and  the elderly, and publishing its newsletter keeps Diane busy in retirement. Every couple has their own special moments, Nick and Diane’s story sadly happened when the world was in such turmoil. Their romance is now one of many inspiring stories included in the Tony nominated Broadway hit Come From Away.
