Exhibit covers four centuries of Hispanic culture

It’s a fantastic collection of art in a wide variety of forms to see in person at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston’s Glory of Spain: Treasures From the Hispanic Society Museum  & Library as they adorn the halls in six galleries in the display area.

Covering more than 4,000 years of history and geography from the Iberian Peninsula to Latin America, the MFAH is the final stop for the exhibit.

Unparalleled outside of Spain, the collections of the New York–based Hispanic Society Museum & Library focus on the art and culture of Spain, Portugal, Latin America, and the Philippines, from antiquity to the early 20th century.

Organized chronologically, visitors can explore techniques and artwork from not only numerous antiquities, but also the Medieval era, Spanish America, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment and modern Spain.

More than 200 incredible objects, which range from drawings to sculptures, maps, textiles, metalwork, paintings, jewelry, and more are demonstrative of unprecedented historical perspective view of the artistic influences of the area.

Among the many artists represented, find works from Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, El Greco, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Jusepe de Ribera, Diego Velázquez, and Francisco de Zurbarán.
