Celebrate Houston’s 183rd birthday on Saturday, August 31st
Join The Heritage Society (THS) and Mister McKinney’s Historic Houston at Connally Plaza at 4:30-8 p.m.
The Heritage Society (THS) and Mister McKinney’s Historic Houston are throwing a party for Houston’s 183rd birthday, and you are invited!
The party will be in Connally Plaza behind THS offices at 1100 Bagby. Free parking is available in THS parking lot between Allen Parkway and Dallas Street.
Guests will enjoy complimentary food from Bollo Woodfired Pizza with beer donated by Saint Arnold Brewing Company, soft drinks, water and a large birthday cake compliments of Three Brother’s Bakery.
Downtown’s District I Council Member Robert Gallegos will serve as honorary chair, and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner will cut the cake around 5 p.m.
Don’t miss free tours of the homes at THS, air-conditioned museum, and live music. Guests will have a rare opportunity to hob-nob with the City of Houston founders, “the Allen Brothers” and Houston’s unsung founder, Charlotte Baldwin Allen, the “Mother of Houston.”
As an added bonus, THS’s new hotel neighbor, the C. Baldwin, located at 400 Dallas St., is offering a special room rate of $99 per room (excluding tax) for the evening of August 31st. Call 713.759.0202 and reference HBD to redeem this offer.
Mister McKinney’s open-air Houston History Bus will be offering free educational bus tours of historic downtown Houston spanning 183 years of our city’s past. Bus tour times on Saturday will be 2:00, 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. Tours will be on a first-come first-served basis.
“Houston is a can-do city with challenges we continue to overcome and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to honor the legacy of those who made it possible,” said Mister McKinney, who serves on THS’s advisory board and is this year’s Happy Birthday Houston co-chair along with the board of THS.
“You can learn all about these remarkable Houstonians and more on August 31,” added McKinney. “It’s time for all of Houston to discover or rediscover the hidden gem that is THS at Sam Houston Park as we celebrate our 65th anniversary. We’ve made it easier than ever with free tours, free food, drinks, lots of live entertainment and much more, in fun and family-friendly atmosphere. Be sure to RSVP at www.heritagesociety.org/happy-birthday-houston to join the fun!”
