Levy Park Set to Host Family Fun Holiday Weekend Events Nov. 30-Dec. 2

Texas Children’s Hospital presents The Polar Express for Family Movie Night on Nov. 30 at Levy Park at 6:30 p.m. 

Texas Children’s Hospital presents the 2004 hit The Polar Express, based on Chris Van Allsburg’s beloved children’s book, for Family Movie Night at Levy Park on Nov. 30.

Written, produced and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film features human characters animated using live action motion capture animation. On Christmas Eve, a young boy embarks on a wondrous trip aboard a powerful, magical train to the North Pole called the Polar Express.

Family Movie Night is on the last Friday of each month. Guests are encouraged to dress in their pajamas. No outside furniture is allowed, but blankets or park chairs can be used.

Guests can enjoy food and beverage service from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. from Coffee Q! In addition to their signature brisket and pulled pork ‘Q (BBQ), holiday food and beverage options will be available.

Levy Park Holiday Festival set for Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 with Music, Market and Children’s’ Events 

Levy Park, located in the Upper Kirby District of Houston, will present the Levy Park Holiday Festival Dec. 1 and Dec 2 with events and activities for all ages and interests, including music, a market, a family photo booth and even an ugly sweater contest for dogs.

The free two-day festival is from noon – 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with canine friends welcome.

“Levy Park’s free Holiday Festival features all the classic elements of the holidays; music, food, shopping, and community,” said Stephanie Kiouses, Park Director for Levy Park. “Guests can also enjoy a twist on the hallmarks of the park in our family photo booth, DIY craft station, and dog ugly sweater contest. This is one event people won’t want to miss.”

“For those who have not been out to the Park, we encourage you to check us out and see why Levy Park was named winner of the prestigious ULI (Urban Land Institute) 2018 Urban Open Space Award in October, which is an international competition,” continued Kiouses. “The Park’s innovative design and many amenities invite interaction and exploration for all ages in the six-acre urban green space.”

Performing Saturday at Levy Park are The Phillip Hall Singers, a nonprofit dedicated to the musical and social enrichment of the greater Houston area. The musical entertainment for Sunday is the Houston Bronze Ensemble, under the direction of artistic director Bill Nave.

Performing on Saturday and Sunday is Space City Sound, a men’s acapella chorus and member of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS). This dynamic musical group won first place in the 2017 Annual Rice Village Sing-Off and placed 14th in the prestigious BHS 2018 International Chorus Contest.

Pop Shop America, in-person event and pop up experts, will guide the DIY Crafts for kids and adults on both days at Levy Park. These include dinosaur and spice-filled ornaments, paper foldable treat and gift boxes, Mason jar snow globes, and holiday window sun catchers. There will be two of these crafts Saturday and two on Sunday.

The Coffee-Q food truck will be serving up delicious food Saturday and Sunday between noon and 5 p.m. Also, Balls Out Burger will be on hand with tasty burgers and more.

Guests are invited to come out to Levy Park early on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 and check out the many amenities, including Children’s Park, putting green, ping pong, dog park, community garden and much more.
