Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston to Open Five Clubs in Spring Branch ISD
The 21st Century Community Learning Center grant will allow BGCGH’s after school programming to reach more Spring Branch ISD students
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston announced the receipt of the 2018-2019 Texas Education Agency (TEA) 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant to open five new Boys & Girls Clubs in partnership with Spring Branch Independent School District for the 2018-2019 school year.
BGCGH will provide high-quality programs and staffing in these five locations in the Spring Branch community to meet the needs of their students, families and communities. Because of this exciting partnership, more than 1,000 Spring Branch students will have the opportunity to attend a Boys & Girls Club after school, where they will have access to academic enrichment, tutorial services, and a broad array of additional programs and activities, such as physical fitness, nutrition, science, and the arts.
In addition to existing Boys & Girls Clubs in Spring Branch ISD located in the Spring Branch Family Development Center, Housman Elementary, and Buffalo Creek Elementary, the five new Club locations are:
- Spring Branch Elementary
- Spring Oaks Middle
- Treasure Forest Elementary at The Women’s Home
- Westwood Elementary
- Woodview Elementary
“We are proud and excited to continue our partnership with SBISD and to invest even more in the Spring Branch community with the addition of these five new Clubs,” Kevin Hattery, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, said. “The 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant from the Texas Education Agency will profoundly change Club members’ and families’ lives by offering children a place to be safe and have fun at these five locations in their community.”
BGCGH will now operate eight Clubs in Spring Branch ISD, including the five added with the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant award.
“SBISD thanks the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston for expanding our strong partnership so that 1,000 deserving children will experience high-quality, engaging, safe after-school programming,” said Scott Muri, Spring Branch Independent School District Superintendent. “We look forward to celebrating our students growing and developing in life-changing ways thanks to BGCGH!”
