Local volunteers assist with the 2,500 pairs donation

Over the years, Rack Room Shoes, a national family footwear retailer, has donated more than 26,000 pairs of shoes to Houston families through the annual event.

During the Shoes for Kids event, local volunteers, Houston area businesses and corporate sponsors including the Latin Women’s Initiative, Comcast, Perry Homes, Halliburton and Whataburger distributed shoes to hundreds of families.

Each child received professional sizing and a new pair of athletic shoes from Rack Room Shoes.

According to Rack Room Shoes Corporate Communications Director Brenda Christmon, when at-risk children receive new footwear, it immediately improves a child’s self-confidence and performance in school.

“We are proud to be part of an initiative that works to help Houston children succeed,” said Christmon. “This is an event that we look forward to attending and participating in each year.”

Rack Room Shoes also partnered with Implus, an innovative footwear and accessories provider, to ensure all of the children received socks during the event.
