Hilton Americas-Houston Recognized with Houston Spirit Award

Hilton Americas-Houston Receives Prestigious Lodging Association Awards

Hospitality on Parade 2018

Hilton Americas-Houston Blue Energy Team has again been recognized by the Hotel & Lodging Association of Greater Houston (HLAGH) with the Houston Spirit Award for the profound impact the team of volunteers from Houston’s largest hotel has had on the community.

The HLAGH Awards in Excellence program is designed to recognize outstanding Houston area hospitality professionals who have made a difference in the industry. The annual Houston Spirit Award is given in recognition for acts of a charitable nature that have left a profound and recognizable mark on the community.

The volunteer efforts of the Hilton Americas-Houston team during Hurricane Harvey highlight the compassion and concern the hotel team has for the Houston community.

Guests of the hotel along with evacuees at the adjacent Convention Center felt the Hilton Effect with hotel chefs helping to prepare more than 1,000 meals for evacuees and 25,900 complimentary hot meals for first responders and hotel team members working or taking refuge at the hotel with their families.

The hotel provided 5,500 lbs of linens and 6,000 towels for those taking shelter at the Convention Center and provided complimentary laundry services to first responders and team members. During this time, Hilton Americas-Houston became pet-friendly for team members staying there, and 1,650 room nights were provided to team members who had lost their housing or electricity due to the ravages of the storm.

In addition to housing first responders, who were assisting in rescue efforts during the storm, the hotel also served as temporary headquarters for the Houston Police Department after their downtown facility was rendered inoperable due to damage from flood waters.

“To have our team receive the Houston Spirit Award for four out of the last five years the award has been given is terrific,” said Jacque D’Rovencourt, general manager, Hilton Americas-Houston.  “It really shows our team’s commitment in giving back to the Houston community, one that has been so instrumental in the success of Hilton Americas-Houston since the day we opened our doors.”

Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts are just one example of the Hilton Effect in action. Throughout the year, Houston has felt the impact of the effect, with Hilton Americas-Houston team members volunteering at numerous charities including the Houston Food Bank, Star of Hope Mission, Community Family Centers, Salvation Army Family Residence and Texas Children’s Hospital.

Impacting youth through Hilton’s Bright Blue Futures initiatives, the hotel donated food to a low-income elementary school for their annual Multicultural Festival, held a Back-to-School Drive with the Alliance, supplying full backpacks to 4,000 local students and partnered with the Las Americas Newcomer School, providing wallets to the school’s new immigrant students.

The Blue Energy Team also participated in the Best Buddies Walk raising awareness for people with disabilities, the Houston Pride Parade supporting diversity, the Galveston Beach Clean Up supporting environmental responsibility and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center saving lives with blood donations.

Hilton Americas-Houston is also proud to announce that General Manager Jacques D’Rovencourt has been recognized by the Hotel Lodging Association of Greater Houston as General Manager of the Year.  The award honors a hotelier who has demonstrated superior professionalism in operating a Houston full service hotel of over 350 rooms, and has taken a leadership role in the industry, and in the local community.

“To have our team receive the Houston Spirit Award for four out of the last five years the award has been given is terrific,” said D’Rovencourt, general manager, Hilton Americas-Houston.  “It really shows our team’s commitment in giving back to the Houston community, one that has been so instrumental in the success of Hilton Americas-Houston since the day we opened our doors.”
