Diners prepare your plan of attack for Houston Restaurant Weeks with July 15th “Reservation Day”

Houston Restaurant Weeks, the single largest fundraiser in the United States benefiting the largest food bank in America, returns August 1st and runs through Labor Day, September 4th.

Last year’s event raised a record breaking $2,015,157.77 for the Houston Food Bank from 274 participating restaurants, sponsors, and friends of HRW.

Houston Restaurant Weeks is run by volunteers and 100 percent of the donations raised from area restaurants go directly to the Houston Food Bank. For 35 days, diners will enjoy specially priced multi-course prix-fixe menus. July 15th is “Reservation Day.”

Starting on July 15, 2017, diners can access a growing list of over 200 expected restaurant participants and their respective Houston Restaurant Weeks menus at www.HoustonRestaurantWeeks.com.

From fine dining to casual neighborhood restaurants, patrons are able to sample a wide variety of cuisines during Houston Restaurant Weeks. Reservations may be required by some restaurants. Walk-ins may be accepted by others. This information will be noted on each restaurant’s menu page on the website.

Founded in 2003 by volunteer Cleverley Stone, Houston Restaurant Weeks has raised over $9.6 million for the Houston Food Bank. This has enabled the Food Bank to provide almost 29 million meals for Houstonians who are food insecure.

As America’s largest and nationally recognized as Feeding America’s Food Bank of the Year, the Food Bank distributes 79 million nutritious meals through its network of 600 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other hunger relief charities in southeast Texas, feeding 800,000 individuals each year.

“Houston Restaurant Weeks is very critical to our mission at Houston Food Bank,” said Brian Greene, president of Houston Food Bank.

“Houston Restaurant Weeks helps the Houston Food Bank provide nutritious food that could be beyond the grocery budget for many low income families: fresh produce and meat. Houston Restaurant Weeks money helps us acquire fresh produce and keep our Retail Pickup Program going. Houston Food Bank distributes more produce than any other food bank in the U.S. Last year, we distributed 39 million pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables. We also distributed more than 7 million pounds of fresh frozen meat, much of it harvested from nearly 400 grocery stores throughout southeast Texas.”

Participating restaurants make donations to the Food Bank based upon their HRW sales. See pricing and donation information below:

For thousands of Houstonians and summer visitors to the Bayou City, Houston Restaurant Weeks provides a five-week long passport to the city’s top restaurants and award-winning chefs. In addition to the ever-expanding contribution made to the Houston Food Bank, this event has grown to include not only the newest and trendiest restaurants in Uptown Galleria, bustling downtown and vibrant Montrose and Midtown, but also popular eateries in outlying communities such as The Woodlands, Sugar Land and Galveston, Texas, among others.

The Houston Food Bank partners with the Montgomery County Food Bank and the Galveston County Food Bank. All donations from restaurants operating in those counties will go to their respective food banks.

“As one who reports on restaurants and chefs in our city, I am so grateful for the outpouring of support by Houston’s restaurant industry, diners, and sponsors for Houston Restaurant Weeks, benefiting the Houston Food Bank,” said founder & chair Cleverley Stone. “Houston Restaurant Weeks has become one of the most anticipated times of the year for local foodies and visitors to our city.”
