12th Annual Empty Bowls Houston kicks off May 13 and 14

empty 3Helping the Houston community with a little arts and crafts handiwork is the focus of the 12th Annual Empty Bowls Houston slated for Saturday, May 14.

Empty Bowls Houston will be held at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft at 4848 Main Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New this year is the Empty Bowls Houston Preview Party on Friday, May 13 from 6-8 p.m.  Get a sneak peek of this year’s amazing array of bowls and a chance to purchase them at the Preview Party on Friday, May 13 at the Houston Center For Contemporary Craft.  Enjoy light bites from Whole Foods, beer from Silver Eagle Distributing, wine and water, and craft camaraderie. Dress is casual.

Evening’s proceeds shared between Houston Food Bank and Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. The Houston Food Bank will receive 100 percent of bowl purchases.

For a minimum $25 donation, attendees have the pleasure of selecting a bowl from hundreds of one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted bowls donated by Houston area ceramists and craft artists, then receive a simple lunch of soup donated by Whole Foods Market and freshly prepared by Houston Food Bank Community Kitchen. Pottery and woodturning demonstrations and live music will be featured.

Last year, over 2,000 bowls of clay, wood, fiber, glass, metal and other media were donated by local artists at colleges, K-12 schools as well as group and individual studios were part of the event.

Empty Bowls is a grassroots effort by artists and craftspeople in cities and towns across the country to feed the hungry in their communities. Empty Bowls Houston is presented by Whole Food Market and implemented locally by Houston-area ceramists and artists working in various media, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and Houston Food Bank.

The empty bowls serve as a reminder of all the empty bowls in our community and around the world.
